Like everywhere in the mountain valleys of the Alps, tobogganing also has a long tradition in South Tyrol. In the past, farmers used sledges as the only means of transport in winter to get down to the valleys from the high-lying farms, often on steep slopes. Today, tobogganing is the perfect activity for fun times in the snow at the Feuerstein and the ski resort of Ladurns. Heading out from the Feuerstein, an easy toboggan slope is located at the Allriss Alm (3.5 km), which regularly organises family trips in the snow. The 10 km long toboggan slope from the peak of the Rosskopf ski resort in Sterzing also adds a touch of magic to a winter family holiday the Alps. Take a gondola to the starting point and make your way down the valley in wide curves through snowy woods.
And if you fancy skating your way through the winter wonderland of Pflersch, you’re sure to find your own personal favourite among the frozen swimming lake at the Feuerstein nature resort. As soon as it’s cold enough, the natural ice rinks are open to one and all – and the necessary footwear is available for rental at the Feuerstein.
