Creating our tomorrow, sustainably

Nature is what we are

Sustainable family vacation at the Feuerstein

Set amidst the impressive natural backdrop of the Pflerschtal valley, inspired and empowered by the energy of the mountains, the Feuerstein is the most nature-oriented place of power in the Alps. Unadulterated and genuine. We therefore aim at jointly contributing to a more sustainable future.

As a sustainable family hotel, we are keenly aware of the responsibility we bear. It is our mission to preserve nature, which is our origin, for our future generations. Our hotel's comfort, service and design all reflect this commitment to sustainability, ensuring a holiday that is conscientious yet without sacrifices. We translate our philosophy into action, with passion and dedication, from the finest details to the big picture.

As a sustainable hotel in South Tyrol, we want to show that family holidays and genuine environmental protection are not a contradiction. From the Mountain Spa to the kitchen, sustainability is not just lip service for us, but something measurable.

Sustainable architecture & construction

The Pflerschtal valley is a special place of retreat, which is also reflected in the architecture of our resort. Despite its size, the sober elegant building blends harmoniously into the landscape whilst respecting the surrounding environment. Large windows join the outdoors with the indoors, while natural materials such as wood, silver quartzite and wool create a welcoming and cosy atmosphere.

Climate-friendly energy supply

The Feuerstein is 100% energy self-sufficient! Why? We place great emphasis on a sustainable energy supply and on the preservation of resources. So how do we achieve this? By obtaining our heat from our wood chip boiler which exclusively uses local wood. Moreover, we also produce 100% green electricity in our power plant by harnessing the power of water.

Side by side, step by step

By safeguarding the environment and advocating for nature, we are ultimately caring for ourselves as well. For our children and hence our future. Each step, however small, is a step into the right direction.

Sustainable cooking

Sustainability implies including our environment in our daily business while identifying how and by which means we can contribute in preserving our nature. Hence, sustainability is an essential part of the cooking process at the Feuerstein. We promote regional economic cycles and source the best quality products from the local area.

Promoting regional economic cycles

Connected to our homeland and regional. These are the authentic values we live and act by every day. Whenever possible, we choose to work with local companies, producers and partners to promote – also in terms of our social responsibility – the regional economic cycles while avoiding long transport routes.

Fresh. Seasonal. Local.

When it comes to cooking, we mostly rely on local producers from the Pflerschtal valley or the immediate surroundings. It is of utmost importance to us that they attach the same great emphasis to quality, animal welfare and natural cultivation as we do. Furthermore, we are keen to reduce food waste as much as possible. Thus, our kitchen team aims at a holistic utilisation, especially when it comes to processing meat.

The second certified natural cosmetics line that our spa team relies on is Phyto Art Cosmetics. Developed and manufactured in South Tyrol, all products are designed with a great emphasis on quality, sustainability, wellbeing and utmost efficacy.

The philosophy of Phyto Art: being human, from the root to the blossom. Mankind and nature form a powerful bond, with the four elements dwelling within every living soul: water, fire, air and earth. Inexhaustible sources of energy that keep body, mind and soul in a natural balance. If any of these elements predominate, it will also have an impact on the skin, among other things. By utilising medicinal plants and crystals, Phyto Art restores this delicate natural balance.

From the earliest age

With us, even the youngest children develop an understanding of nature in a playful way. According to the philosophy of Maria Montessori, spending time in and with nature assumes a crucial role in our childcare programme. On excursions through forests and meadows, we come face to face with the world of animals and plants. Children work with wood, leap into the hay in the play barn or enjoy the scent of horses at the equestrian centre. Perceive, understand, respect – that is our motto.

Frequently asked questions

Is arriving without your own car practical?

Yes, travelling to the Feuerstein without a car is easily possible. You can travel conveniently by train or public transport to Brenner or Gossensass. When arriving by train, we are happy to pick you up from the station: from Brenner for €50 per journey and from Gossensass free of charge. This allows your holiday at the Feuerstein to begin in a relaxed and uncomplicated way from the moment you arrive.

How can I contribute to sustainability as a guest?

As a guest, you can also contribute to a more sustainable holiday at the Feuerstein by reusing towels, separating waste, behaving responsibly in nature and going on excursions by e-bike, on foot or by public transport. In this way, sustainability becomes an uncomplicated part of each holiday day during a stay at a hotel in South Tyrol.

How is sustainability taught to children and teenagers in an age-appropriate way?

At the Feuerstein, children and teenagers experience sustainability primarily through their own actions: outdoors in nature, through contact with animals, in the mud room, in the wood workshop or during programmes based on Maria Montessori’s nature-based educational approach. In this way, a sustainable holiday with children can be experienced through play.

Is it possible to visit regional partner businesses, farms or producers?

Visits to selected regional partners are possible in some cases. The Botenhof, in particular, can be explored in more detail. This is where the Wipptal herbs are produced, grown and processed at the two locations in Pflersch and Wiesen. Other partner businesses are generally not open to the public, but their products and their connection to the region can be experienced directly at the Feuerstein.
