That is why the Feuerstein has its own teen programme, designed precisely around these needs. It was created by Florian, our Head of Childcare and a true Feuerstein original. In this interview, he explains why young people need their own concept on holiday, what was particularly important to him, and why the Feuerstein remains an ideal holiday destination for families with teens.
Florian, you have been part of the Feuerstein for a long time. How have you experienced the development of childcare and the teen programme over the years?
What is positive is that there are children I have been looking after every year since they were very small. The Feuerstein and the children have grown together. Many new activities have been added, and yet many of our long-standing highlights are still very much loved.
Why do teenagers need their own concept on holiday and not simply classic childcare?
Teenagers are very independent and like to be among themselves. In everyday life, they have a lot to do with AI, mobile phones and digital media. That is why we offer them a very special programme here, one that is often not possible in everyday life. This includes, for example, archery, camping in nature, rafting or the high ropes course.
What was particularly important to you when you designed the teen programme at the Feuerstein?
The focus is on experiences and fun. When the weather allows, many activities take place outdoors. The programme should be varied, bring joy and, above all, offer the opportunity to connect with one another and make friends. In addition, the teens can actively help shape the weekly programme, which is why it differs from week to week.
In your opinion, what do teenagers need most on holiday: freedom, action, retreat, peers or shared experiences?
Teenagers want a combination of exciting activities and a strong sense of community. At the same time, they appreciate a certain amount of freedom: they do not want to spend time exclusively with their parents, but would like to organise themselves and help shape their week. Especially because of its location at the end of the valley, the Feuerstein is ideal for moving around independently and safely.
What would you say to parents who are unsure whether a family hotel is still the right holiday destination with teenagers?
Yes, it is definitely the right holiday destination. Far away from hustle and bustle and school stress, this special atmosphere with fresh mountain air invites them to slow down. The camp, for example: a whole day in the forest, without a mobile phone, but with games, a campfire and lots of fun, is very much appreciated by the young people and is an absolute highlight every year.
