Ridgelines – Chasing the Edge: With Severine Petersen through the South Tyrolean mountains

Severine is running along the rocks while being filmed by the cameraman.

Whenever Severine Petersen laces up her running shoes, she is drawn to the very place we call home: the mountains of the Pflersch Valley. On narrow trails, along ridgelines and over countless metres of elevation, the trail runner finds exactly the terrain she loves. And from up there, she often sees the Feuerstein from a very different perspective than our guests do: from high above.

That made it all the more special for us to get to know Severine personally away from the mountain trails and to experience a day of filming in the Pflersch Valley. We are delighted to once again support a film project by SickLevel Production as a sponsor: the original documentary “RIDGELINES – Chasing the Edge”.

A big goal and the journey towards it

At the heart of the film is German-South Tyrolean trail runner and Mammut athlete Severine Petersen. Her major sporting goal: the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc 2027, or UTMB, one of the world’s most renowned and demanding trail running races.

But “RIDGELINES – Chasing the Edge” is not simply the story of an athlete training for a 100-kilometre ultra race. The documentary accompanies Severine through her everyday life, during competitions and throughout countless hours of training in the South Tyrolean mountains. Training plans, recovery and nutrition are just as much part of the story as mental challenges, doubts and the many small decisions that shape the journey towards a major goal.

Above all, however, the film tells the story of the person behind the athletic achievement.

Finding a home in the mountains

Severine’s story is shaped by change, personal crises and new beginnings. Over time, the mountains became far more than just a place to train. They became a place where she found peace and strength and, eventually, a sense of home.

Today, running through South Tyrol’s alpine landscapes is an expression of freedom for her and an integral part of her life. Her passion for the mountains became a new path in life, and it is precisely this connection that makes her story so special for director and producer Tobias Marcotto.

“RIDGELINES” is therefore about the great sporting moments just as much as the quiet ones in between. It is about discipline and progress, but also setbacks and doubts. And about the question of what drives a person to keep moving forward, time and again.

The South Tyrolean mountains as part of the story

The landscape itself plays a special role. The South Tyrolean mountains are not merely a backdrop for the film. They shape Severine’s story and, in a way, become part of it themselves.

This gives the film project a very special connection for us. After all, some of these trails and mountain landscapes are right on our doorstep. With its unspoilt nature, peaks and high-altitude trails, the Pflersch Valley is not only home to the Feuerstein, but also one of the places where Severine particularly loves to run and train.

Being able to accompany her there for a day together with SickLevel Production and gain a small insight into her world made the experience all the more special for us.

A film about more than trail running

Behind “RIDGELINES – Chasing the Edge” is SickLevel Production, directed by Tobias Marcotto. His aim is not only to showcase outstanding athletic performance, but to make the person behind it visible.

In the film, Severine’s journey towards the UTMB 2027 becomes a symbol of a much greater journey. One of endurance, identity, home and inner strength, and of the courage to keep finding one’s own path after periods of change.

We are delighted to support “RIDGELINES – Chasing the Edge” as a sponsor and to be part of a film project that tells a special story from and within the place we call home.

And perhaps the next time we look up towards the peaks surrounding the Feuerstein, we will think of Severine, somewhere up there, out on the trails.
