Flammi accompanies the children throughout their holiday at Feuerstein, shares big and small adventures with them and brings a sparkle to their eyes time and again. But behind our cheerful mascot is also a fascinating animal that feels particularly at home in damp forests, near streams and in shady places.
A Small Forest Dweller with a Big Impact
With its striking black and yellow markings, the fire salamander is hard to mistake. Even so, it sometimes takes a little luck to spot one in the wild. It is especially likely to appear after rainfall, making its way through the forest.
For children, encountering a fire salamander is something truly special. It invites them to take a closer look and become more aware of the small creatures that share our natural surroundings. Of course, the best thing to do is observe it from a little distance and avoid touching or picking it up. This allows the salamander to continue on its way through the forest undisturbed.
At the same time, we would like to use this day to raise awareness about protecting these special animals. Their populations are under threat in many places, making it all the more important to preserve their natural habitats and treat them with care and respect.
Why Flammi Is the Perfect Fit for Feuerstein
Discovering nature and spending time outdoors are simply part of the Feuerstein experience. That is why we could hardly imagine a more fitting mascot than Flammi, our fire salamander.
He reminds us that great adventures can sometimes begin in the smallest of ways: with a walk through the forest, a trace beside the path or a mysterious black-and-yellow visitor hiding among damp leaves.
On Fire Salamander Day, we therefore celebrate not only Flammi, but also all those little encounters with nature that make a family holiday so special.
