A conversation with fitness trainer Marco about wellbeing, nature and active holidays

Nature begins right on the doorstep at the Feuerstein. Lush alpine meadows, varied hiking trails, and the impressive mountain scenery of the Pflerschtal Valley invite you to be active and recharge your batteries at the same time. After all, it is often the little moments in nature that do us the most good. Our fitness trainer Marco reveals in an interview what role exercise plays in well-being and how to have a healthy summer.

1.Marco, please introduce yourself briefly. What is your role at the Feuerstein and what excites you about your work?

Hello, I am Marco Margelli, 44 years old, originally from Tuscany, and I have been living in Tyrol for many years. I studied sports science at the University of Florence and work at the Feuerstein as a fitness and personal trainer. Fitness has been a part of my life for over 30 years. My greatest joy is inspiring people to move and accompanying them on their journey to better well-being.

2.When you think of a perfect summer day in the Pflerschtal Valley, what does it look like to you?

For me, a perfect summer day starts early in the morning when the air is still fresh and nature is particularly quiet. A walk or a gentle outdoor exercise session provides an energetic start to the day.

After that, relaxation, good food, and time in nature are simply a must. Whether it's a hike, a bike ride, or a short workout: exercise should always be fun and not feel like a chore. Exactly this combination of activity, relaxation, and nature is what makes a holiday in the Pflerschtal Valley so special.

3.Many people associate holidays with relaxation. Why do you believe exercise is also part of a successful getaway?

Many people primarily associate holidays with relaxation. However, it is actually exercise that can help regenerate body and mind. In everyday life, there is often a lack of time for oneself. On holiday, guests have the opportunity to listen to their bodies again and rediscover the joy of movement.

For me, the most beautiful thing is when guests return home more relaxed, energized, and with new motivation.

4.What are some simple ways to stay active while on holiday?

Staying active is easier than many people think. Often, little things like a morning walk, a hike, a few laps in the pool, or short mobility exercises are enough.

My tip: Find an activity that you enjoy and that suits your fitness level. On holiday, it's not about performance, but about the good feeling of doing something for yourself.

By the way, I also train every day while on holiday. Whether with equipment, body weight, or the possibilities that nature offers – movement is simply a part of it for me.

5.What should guests absolutely keep in mind when exercising and playing sports on hot summer days?

The most important thing is to drink enough and adapt the activity to the temperatures. The cooler morning or evening hours are ideal. Light clothing, sun protection, and regular breaks additionally ensure a comfortable workout.

Above all, however, you should listen to your own body. Holidays are not about peak performance, but about feeling good and recharging your batteries.

6.How can families be active together and have fun at the same time?

Moving together creates special memories. Whether hiking, cycling, swimming, or playing a game of football between parents and children – such experiences connect people.

When exercise is experienced as a game, an adventure, or a shared discovery, it not only strengthens health but also family cohesion. This is exactly what makes an active family holiday so valuable.

7.Finally: What advice would you like to give our guests for a healthy and energetic summer?

Consistency is more important than short-term peak performance. Those who stay active all year round are doing their bodies a favor in the long run.

My advice: Focus on a balanced mix of strength and endurance training, combined with a healthy diet. Just four to five training sessions a week of about an hour each are enough to get through the summer fit, healthy, and full of energy.
